Aztec v6.0.0 is out: operators can start nodes in standby mode

Published 23 Oct 2026, 07:06 UTC

Aztec Labs published the v6.0.0 release. You can start your v6 node now, in standby mode.

If the governance vote passes, v6 becomes canonical on mainnet no earlier than Monday, 26 October, at 08:00 UTC.

What to do
Separate host: start the v6 node with a new, empty data directory.
Same host as v5: start the v6 node with a new, empty data directory and its own container name, AZTEC_PORT and P2P_PORT.
HA setup with a shared PostgreSQL database: move one node to v6 now and keep the other on v5. After the upgrade, move the second node to v6 too. Until then, do not restart it on v5: at startup, v5 deletes the v6 signing records from the shared database. A separate database for v6 removes this risk.

For all setups
Your L1 endpoint must support debug_traceTransaction or trace_transaction.
Keep your v5 node running until the v6 node leaves standby and attests.
